Lovell Telescope- Jodrell Bank

I went to Jodrell Bank the other day, it's not too far from where I live. I love this telescope, partly for the history and the work they do now, and partly because it is such a beautiful piece of architecture.

In my mind, it doesn't mar the beauty of the surrounding landscape like some man made objects do.

To give some idea of scale, those small squares you see on the far left and right are windows. There is also a service ladder running up along the collector's scaffold.

The Lovell Telescope is a radio telescope at the Jodrell Bank observatory, near Manchester, England.

It was constructed in the 1950s.
The dish has a diameter of 76.2 m (250 ft).
It is now the third largest steerable dish radio telescope in the world.
It has played an important part in the history of recent space exploration.
